We live in a dynamic world with very relevant societal challenges, or even crises in the areas of climate, CO2, biodiversity, water management and food production. Food forests can be a solution for many of these crises. There are already several examples of this and they are supported by, among others, the Green Deal food forests and universities (Universities in Wageningen and Amsterdam). In addition, food forests have an important local component, with great social ties between people who want to make a concrete contribution to making the world a little better.

What can a food forest do for us?
Food forests contribute to biodiversity, water storage, CO2 storage, soil improvement and of course food supply and community building. There is a lot of information available about food forests and related topics, such as agroforestry, syntropic, etc.
WHO ARE WE?
Food forest Le Petit Béroux is a food forest in the making
We, Irma and Sijtse, want to take concrete steps and contribute to halting the climate crisis and the decline in biodiversity. That is why we bought a house, with a piece of land of almost 8 ha, in the middle of France. There we want to create, expand and harvest the food forest together with volunteers, a community of other enthusiasts, local companies and institutions. In addition, we also want to involve schools and play a role in the field of nature and nutrition education.
Our objectives are:
- Setting up a food forest so that we can eventually live off it ourselves and demonstrate to the environment that food forests can provide good and healthy food, in addition to the existing supply
- Spreading knowledge about food forests and permaculture to motivate and facilitate others to start this form of agriculture
- Normalizing food from food forests, including by combining it with already known plant food sources
- Achieving an increase in biodiversity in the food forest
- Mitigating climate change by capturing carbon from the air
